AFRICAN FASHION
Being an African In the diaspora, Its a bit hypocritical that I never mention or write about any African designers or there clothing lines and yet still complain about why African fashion is not doing well globally. Like many "African" fashion bloggers am naively keen on blogging about already well known western and european brands (not that there is something wrong with doing so) without balancing the fashion diversity or showing fashion patriotism.
The rampant mentality of blogging about what celebrities are wearing has taken Its toll on us that we have forgotten about fashion diversity.
Never the less, I can gladly say that African fashion in the diaspora is undergoing a real return to the roots, not because of fashion trends, but due to the fact that most Africans In the diaspora are becoming more Afrocentric with open minds
and are embracing there culture heritage with the countenance of events like www.afwamsterdam.com (Africa Fashion Week) and the occurrence of natural hair movements ( Afro-urban) and role models like Lupita Nyongo, hence prompting the subsequent need for validation of our cultural fashion heritage by asserting its validity and importance.
With that being said, Its important and seems right that I feature some modern and old African fashion styles and designers on my blog called African Couture In the hope that It will inspire the young generation Of African origin to be proud of there culture heritage and don there African attires more..
xoxo från.
